GAMES TO WATCH -- WEEK 3

NAVY [0-1, Independent] @ PENN STATE [0-2, 0-0 Big Ten] - Midshipmen return to action following 50-10 loss to Notre Dame on season's opening week. 

Nittany Lions dropped 17-16 decision @ Virginia after season-opening loss at home to Ohio.   Penn State still looking for first victory under new HC BILL O'BRIEN, who came to State College from New England Patriots staff.   Penn State QB MATT McGLOIN is Big Ten's 3rd-rated passer [46-83-4 TD, 1 INT], averaging 228.5 yards/game.  McGloin has pair of talented, young WRs in soph ALLEN ROBINSON [19-186-1 TD], Big Ten's leading receiver; and freshman KYLE CARTER [10-107-1 TD].   Senior OLB MICHAEL MAUTI has 21 stops in first 2 games.   Despite 1-sided loss to Fighting Irish, Navy QB TREY MILLER [14-19-192-1 TD, 1 INT] engineered several productive drives and proved Mids can move ball through air and on ground.  Navy is playing first two games on road for first time since 2007.  Navy has one of  FBA's youngest teams; Midshipmen do not redshirt, and have 13 true freshmen on this week's depth chart.  Under HC KEN NIUMATALOLO, Mids are 17-16 in away matches.  They are 27-4 for Niumatalolo when scoring first.  Game is Navy's first game against Big Ten opponent since 2009, when Ohio State edged Mids, 31-27, in Columbus, OH.  Navy's last victory over Big Ten foe came back in 1979, when Mids beat Illinois 13-12 in Champaign, IL.   The Series:   38th meeting in series that began in 1894.   Penn State has won 18 times to 17 for Navy with 2 ties.  Teams have not met since 1974, when Mids upset Lions in State College and ended Nittany Lions' 21-game home winning streak.   Last Navy win:  1974, 7-6, at State College, PA.   Last Penn State win:  1973, 39-0, at Annapolis, MD.  Kickoff:  12:30 p.m. PDT/3:30 p.m. EDT:   Television:   ABC & ESPN2 [regional]
