NEBRASKA [0-0, Big 10, 1-0] @ UCLA [0-0 Pac-12, 1-0] - Huskers invade Rose Bowl for key intersectional with rejuvenated Bruins.
Nebraska rode passing arm of QB TAYLOR MARTINEZ for 49-20 win over Southern Mississippi in season opener.   UCLA, under new head coach JIM MORA, delivered 49-32 triumph over Rice.  Nebraska returns 7 starters each on offense & defense to squad that finished 9-4 in 'll.  Top 4 ballcarriers are back, led by REX BURKHEAD [284-1,406-15 TD last season].  Burkhead [3-68] ran for 57-yard TD last weekend.   Martinez threw for 13 scores/8 INT last season.   Huskers look to 49th postseason appearance, and are 24-24 overall but have lost last two bowl games ['09 Holiday, 19-7, to Washington; '10 Capital One, 30-13, to South Carolina].  Bruins went outside UCLA family in hiring Mora, who spent 25 seasons in National Football League.   Mora had head coaching stints w/Atlanta Falcons & Seattle Seahawks.  He spent past two seasons as TV analyst before rejoining coaching ranks.   UCLA finished 6-8 last year, losing Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl to Illinois, 20-14.   Bruins' 49 points were most scored by UCLA since 45 in '07 season-opening win over Stanford.  RB JONATHAN FRANKLIN [166-976-5 TD in '11] got off to good start vs. Rice, scoring on pair of 72-yard runs.   Redshirt freshman BRETT HUNDLEY won QB competition over veterans Kevin Prince & Richard Brehaut.   Bruins are 11-3 in last 14 outings hosting non-conference competitionLast time Bruins defeated Huskers, UCLA's QB was TROY AIKMAN, who threw for 3 scores.    The Series:   11th meeting in series that began in 1946.  Nebraska has won 6 times to UCLA's 4.   Last meeting:  1994:  Nebraska 49, UCLA 21 in Lincoln, NB.   Last UCLA win:   1988:  UCLA 41, Nebraska 28 at Pasadena, CA.    Television:   FOX Sports [national]:  4:30 p.m. [PDT]/7:30 p.m. [EDT].
