SAN FRANCISCO -- More than 125 youngsters, ages 5-14, took part in the first ever Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl youth football clinic, presented by NCAA football. The clinic was held at Kezar Stadium, the long-ago home of the San Francisco 49ers, and currently a venue for high school and college athletics. Prior to the clinic drills, Oakland Raiders linebacker, Sam Williams addressed the participants and spoke briefly about what the game of football has meant to him throughout his career, both on and off the field. Coaches from the Stanford, California, San Jose State and City College of San Francisco staffs instructed the youngsters on all phases of the game: offensive and defensive line play, quarterbacking, coverage techniques, running and defending the ball, plus special teams work. "It was a wonderful opportunity for Bay Area kids to learn from some of the very best coaches in college football, and we look forward to working with the local youth football organizations and NCAA Football to hopefully grow this event in the future" said Ryan Oppelt, the Asst. Executive Director of the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. |
